With Michelle Mallin from the Honor Bell Foundation

The Honor Bell is the first tolling bell cast in U.S. history with the sole purpose of rendering a final honor to United States Armed Forces Veterans. The bell is intended to only be tolled by veterans in memory of their brothers and sisters in arms. The bell is only tolled for memorial purposes; never for a demonstration or celebratory event.

Though we do display the bell at a variety of events. Our program also allows for first responders to toll the bell at appropriate memorial ceremonies. The Honor Bell Foundation is accepting volunteers to assist the organization reach its mission and any veteran can join the bell guard.

With Richard Murphy of Veterans to Farmers

Veterans to Farmers offers an opportunity for our men and women who have sacrificed so much to be our protectors. We offer a way to recover, to learn, and to move forward by becoming our providers, contributing to the solution of our food insecure nation.

Veterans to Farmers helps Veterans assimilate effectively, productively and permanently into private citizenry by training them in agriculture that leads to urban homesteading and/or business ownership. Richard Murphy is a 3rd generation Air Force Veteran who comes from a family proud of their military heritage and service to the nation. Rich served as a member of the U.S. Security Forces from 1998 to 2003 when he returned to the civilian sector to serve his community in social work.

Not long after separating Rich began teaching himself how to farm, or as he would say “to listen to the plants”. His curiosity did not stop at the soil. Rich sought out innovative agriculture methods like hydroponics, controlled environmental agriculture and more. What started as just a welcome distraction soon became a lifelong obsession. After a while, you could count on finding Rich tending to his garden and teaching whoever would listen about the magical life of plants. As luck would have it he was introduced to Veterans to Farmers (VTF) in 2013 while looking for others who shared the same passion for local food production, responsible agriculture and contributing.

His wife LeeAnn (also a veteran) stumbled across VTF while they were reaching out for help getting a non-profit started. She instantly knew Rich was the perfect fit. The rest is history. Rich and VTF became inseparable and he went on to help design the courses, teach the classes, mentor veterans, and educate the public on the important topics of veteran support and local food security.

Kimberly Outlaw, Executive Director of Outreach for Support A Soldier, shares her story of bravery and courage. Support A Soldier makes soldiers safer, more comfortable and more effective in combat areas by supplying gear/equipment which is not provided by the US military, or which is better than what soldiers are issued. They are helping the fighting men and women who are deployed who are in the ‘heat, the cold, rocks and dirt’, and who would otherwise pay directly out of their own pockets or turn to their families to meet these needs. This organization is a venue for the American public to support, honor and give back to those who serve us by fulfilling requests from soldiers for items they would otherwise be purchasing themselves.

Kimberly Outlaw is an Army Combat Veteran of the Gulf War. The war where over 40,000 women were known as trailblazers, after being the largest female deployment in U.S. History. Once the war was over, she went on to continue serving her country for four years with the Colorado National Guard. A leader among her peers, she devoted 22 years to the US Postal Service where she quickly rose in supervisory and management positions. She has since found an opportunity which allows her to make a difference promoting integrity and accountability working with the Office of Inspector General.
